They further indicate that MMP analysis from periapical exudate could be used to indicate and monitor inflammatory activity and thesuccess of treatment in teeth with periapical lesions.</description>

The methods described are useful when conventional techniques fail as all have been shown to increase the incidence of pulpal anaesthesia when used in combination with standard techniques. Knowledge of the various methods is useful as these techniques might be required to provide pain control for teeth that prove difficult to anaesthetize by the operator&#226;&#128;s normal route. </description>

					  <title>Effect of sterilization on the cutting efficiency of PVD-coated nickel-titanium endodontic instruments</title>

Conclusions.Within the limitation of this in vitro study, repeated cycles of sterilization under autoclave or exposure to NaOCl prior to repeated sterilization did not alter the cutting efficiency of TiN-coated NiTi instruments. On the contrary, sterilized uncoated files showed a significant loss of cutting efficiency in comparison with instruments that were not sterilized.</description>

					  <title>The effects of dentine pretreatment on the adhesion of root-canal sealers</title>

The effects of various dentine pretreatments on adhesion were also investigated. Conclusions.The sealers varied markedly in their adhesion to dentine and gutta-percha. The effects of the various dentine pretreatments on adhesion differed amongst the sealer types. Pretreatment with E DTA showed no effect or produced weaker bonds than controls, suggesting that removal of the smear layer may impair sealer adhesion to dentine. Phosphoric and citric acid pretreatments increased adhesion to a zincoxide-eugenol-based sealer. Consideration should, therefore, be given to appropriate selection of dentine pretreatment for various sealer types.</description>

Conclusions.In the present study, immunoreactivity of COX-2 was expressed in the lining epithelium and subepithelial fibroblasts, macrophages and endothelial cells in all radicular cyst specimens. COX-2 expression was also noted in the endothelial cells of some small capillaries in the fibrous connective tissue wall with a marked inflammatory cell infiltrate. Moreover, COX-2 expression is significantly higher in radicular cysts. Taken together, COX-2 expression may play an important role in the pathogenesis of radicular cysts.</description>

This potential problem indicates a need to re-evaluate the process employed for machining these instruments and to review the cleaning methods currently in use.</description>

Conclusions.Bonding to pulpal floor dentine was weaker than previously reported for cut coronal dentine. The self etching priming system bonded more strongly than the &#226;&#128;one-bottle&#226;&#128; system. In view of the irregular surface morphology and absence of a smear layer, etching conditions may need to be adapted for bonding to pulpal floor dentine.</description>
